Do you love to sing? Do you play an instrument? Would you like to use your God given talent for a greater purpose? If so, St. John the Baptist has a variety of musical ensembles to choose from for any age and skill level.

The Adult Choir is the most active ensemble of the parish, singing at Mass each weekend and for major feasts and holy days throughout the year. The primary role the choir assumes is leading the congregation in song at Mass. The choir also enhances the mass by singing a variety of choral music ranging from chant to classical to contemporary. From September through May, we meet on Thursdays from 7-9 pm and sing at the 11:00 am Mass each Sunday. The choir is open to any adult or student in 9th grade and above, and we welcome any new additions.

The cantors play an integral role in the liturgy by emonstrating and leading the congregation in all musical aspects of the Mass. The cantors are more highly trained musicians that present an example for the congregation to follow. The cantors rehearse on Thursdays from 6:30-7 pm and are put on a rotating schedule to cover all of the weekend Masses, feasts and holy days. Cantoring is open to any adult or student in 9th grade and above.

The handbell choir is an enthusiastic ensemble that loves to bring their unique sound to the liturgy. Along with providing extra accompaniment to the hymns, the bell choir also plays handbell literature that incorporates various techniques to elicit a mixture of sounds from the bells. From September through May, the bell choir rehearses on Mondays from 7-8 pm. The bells play for the high liturgical feasts and also once a month at Mass. Anyone interested in joining the bell choir should have a beginning understanding of how to read music.

The praise band is a high school aged ensemble that specializes in contemporary music. This energetic group of young people utilizes the piano, guitar, electric bass, drum set, and vocals to bring their music alive. They offer their musical worship at the 5:00 Mass once a month. The praise band meets on Mondays at 6-7pm from September through May. We are currently in need of a drummer and vocalists, and any other instruments that will enhance the sound of our ensemble.

The school cantors are students from St. John the Baptist School that sing during the week at the school Masses. These students assume the responsibilities of a regular
cantor and choir by leading and supporting the musical components of the Mass. Any child enrolled at St. John the Baptist School and in grades 3-8 is allowed to join.
Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 3-3:30 pm during the academic year.

The Junior Choir is a parish-wide children’s choir. This choir leads the congregation by cantoring all of the music at Mass. Any child of the parish in grades 4-8 can participate in this choir that sings once a month at the 9:00 am Mass, and at Christmas and Easter. The junior choir rehearses on Thursdays at 3:30-4 pm from September through May.

The cherub choir is a group of children that joins the junior choir at Christmas and Easter. Any child from the parish in grades K-3 is welcome to join. The cherub choir rehearses a few weeks prior to Christmas and Easter has a joint rehearsal time with the junior choir on

Thursdays from 3:30-4 pm.
