What is CCD?
The Church has always recognized that parents are the primary educators of their children when it comes to passing on the faith.
One of the major missions of today’s Church is to educate
the faithful…that is where CCD comes in. CCD stands for Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. From it’s origin in 1905 in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, this Confraternity has been comprised of dynamic lay people filled with the desire to respond to the invitation of Jesus: to go and teach the Good News of His Father’s love to all.
The CCD/Religious Education Department at Saint John the Baptist has been established to assist you, the parents, in providing the most up to date teachings of our Church in regard to the four pillars of our faith: Creed, Sacraments, Morality and Prayer calling forth Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
“Our” children are the future Church so it is important for all
of us to make sure they have a strong foundation in their faith of the Trinity, belief in the Church and what it stands for, and the ability to make appropriate prioritized decisions throughout their lives.

The philosophy of Religious Education at Saint John the Baptist is to help each Christian person to develop a deeper, personal relationship with God, Our Creator and Jesus, Our Savior.
Our goal is to permit the student to learn of Christ and His love for us in an atmosphere of love and learning geared to their age level. The program emphasis will be placed on the parent’s reinforcement and cooperation of weekly lessons in addition to their awareness of themselves as their children’s primary educator.
