Adult Faith Formation
Adult faith formation requires a unique approach, so that it can address the needs of those Catholics who are seeking to deepen their faith.
Adult religious formation is the lifelong process by which a person develops a mature faith relationship with God. Learning in faith is not simply a matter “between God and me”. Rather, it includes all occasions and opportunities that help an adult grow in faith – one’s relationship with God. Liturgy, sacramental life, prayer, community and one’s involvement in service to others influence learning in faith.
As adults, we bring to the learning situation a wealth of experience. We look to the faith stories of others, both now and in Scripture and Tradition, and, as we share our own religious stories, we grow in our relationship with God together.
Time is allotted at the gatherings to listen to people. Often the time before the gathering starts and after the gathering ends provides excellent opportunities to really connect with one another.
Prayer, quiet reflection, guided imagery, conversation, and stories are incorporated into the faith formation sessions.
There exists a team of committed adults who lead the gathering at each session.
The teachings of the Church are presented in a way by which each participate lives by through their life daily.
Humor and good fun is woven into the flow of the session. Jesus laughed, too!

Our Hearts Were Burning Within UsA Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation the United States
A Renewed Commitment to Adult Faith Formation:
We are filled with great joy and expectation as the third millennium of Christian history dawns. Before us, in the wonder of God's gracious plan, stretch new opportunities to proclaim the Good News of Jesus to all the world. We are eager to witness and share the word of life about the reign of God faithfully, so that each new generation can hear this word in its own accents and discover Christ as its Savior. Every disciple of the Lord Jesus shares in this mission. To do their part, adult Catholics must be mature in faith and well equipped to share the Gospel, promoting it in every family circle, in every church gathering, in every place of work, and in every public forum. They must be women and men of prayer whose faith is alive and vital, grounded in a deep commitment to the person and message of Jesus.
How does it work?
A team member from St. John’s will lead the parish Adult Faith Formation Sessions through a process of study and reflection on various Scriptural and Traditional topics of our faith. These sessions will be held in the Rectory Meeting Room on assigned Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. They are opened to any interested adult from this parish and neighboring parishes. During Advent and Lent topics will be presented weekly reflective of the seasons.
