Bereavement Ministry

The Bereavement Committee of Saint John the Baptist Parish has been organized to reach out to the individuals and families who have experiences loss by death.  At present we have teams that:  visit the family's home and/or the funeral home, attend a Vigil Service the day before the funeral, help the family plan the liturgy, send sympathy cards and/or telephone calls, attend the funerals and assist as needed, prepare worship aids to be used at the funeral, and follow up as a friend as needed.

Q:  What skills and talents are needed?

A:  Only the desire to help others by prayer, concern, time, and compassion

Q:  What is the time commitment?

A:  Varies as needed

Q:  How does this ministry affect others?

A:  We receive many acknowledgements and thanks from the bereaved, and the team experiences their reward by the expressions of appreciation that they receive, as well as the good feeling we all receive, when we are able to reach out to others.
